Solitary urban hiker

Departure: Somewhere around 10:00AM
Arrival: Somewhere around 12:00AM
Distance: 4.22Km (2.6Miles)
Type: Walk.
Gear: Blue short, blue short sleaved shirt, brown cap, big orange hikking back pack, plastic sandals, wallet, keyset...

I stepped out, turned right, as very often. Walked on 28 de julio. Walked on Larco. There was an incident there, which I won´t talk about. Kept walking. Looked at my presentation in the mirror. Crossed the street. Arrived on parque Salazar, turned right, walked on the Malecon. A lot of people as usual. Sunday morning people. A few bikers and a few runners, as usual. A lot of surfers as it is usual on Sunday. There was a light mist but we could see quite well. The sea was quite clear and blue with waves as usual. It´s starting to get grey here.

Got to the park and sat there thinking. Again, I had to move because there was this gardener wattering the spot. Made me think about the use of water in Lima. Couldn´t that water serve a better purpose? Instead of watering grass on a park, in "the yellow zone", they might water a vegetable/botanic garden that would actually provide food/medecine/fibers to Miraflorinos. And that is a whole topic to think about. Is it ok, to introduce non endemic species and modify the local ecosystem to our benefit?

I changed bench, kept thinking. Then I headed down the brigde and came out the other way, as usual. Walked along the Club Terrazas. The usual activity of the Club of a Sunday morning.

Got to San Martin and turned there. Walked as nothing significant happened. As I got near to my house I thought I heard someone say on the phone: "va al mercado" maybe "van al mercado". It would by strange that he was talking about me (who would care about me going the market?) but then again who knows...

So I kept walking and went to the market, indeed. Btw: I alway see people that seem to nod at me and I don´t know why are they nodding about... but they do. I stopped on the bridge to see the cars and buses on the "sanjon" and thought for a while about all these people travelling in cars or in the metropolitano from distant places of the Metropolis, while I have been living in my microcosm for years. The vision of the "sanjon" always depresses me a bit. It´s ugly and full of fossil fuel vehicules.

I got to Reducto. There where people doing group Yoga, Tai Chi or sh*t like that..on the grass as I was thinking that it´s probably better to do that on a clean surface. I think on Sunday there are activities in that park for brats usually. There where some sort of stands and kids running around behind the market.

As for the market. The usual. Almost exactly as last week. ( I got my cap of at the shade of the stands, as I was starting to feel the heat..the sun came out) I walk throught different stands buying fruits and vegetables. Last week I was short on fruits again, in spite of my attempts to buy more fruits. Again, I tried to buy more fruits to the fruteras who always say "caserito" a thousand times and the customers they call them back "caserita". And everybody calls themselves caserito(a). You hear "caserito" this.."caserita" that. I don´t really know what is means but some peruvian merchants call people "caserito(a)". For me someone who is a "casero" is someone who spends a lot of time inside his "casa" and doesn´t go out much. There was this guy who stopped at every same stand I stopped. It might have been a coincidence again. He spoke stuff to the verduleras. I thought I heard him say "2 errores" o "Jan". Strange. Never seen that guy but he looked a bit like a younger version of the guy who promoted magnesio on peruvian tv. Who knows what that was about. I have no clue. I might just me elucubrating. Anywayzz, I might have forgotten to buy salad but maybe it´s for the best because it often gives me digestive problems. I asked for a slice of vegetable quische for my today lunch. Got the last onion bread loaf. At the end of the market I was very hot, my backpack got heavy but couldn´t afford a glass of chicha to cool down so I thought I´d go straight back to drink water.

Got back home safe and sound through San Martin with no significant event.
